A 21-year-old man, Sodiq Akinlade on Tuesday, was arraigned before an Ogun state Magistrate court sitting in Isabo for allegedly defrauding Phonix Hotel, located at Ibara Housing Estate Abeokuta, with the sum of N253,750.
Akinlade who was an employee at the hotel is facing a three-count charge of conspiracy, stealing and unlawful conversion of the hotel money into personal use.
The Prosecutor, Insp. Olubisi Lawrence told the court that the defendant committed the offence on February 3rd at about 5:45 pm within the hotel premises.
Lawrence added that Akinlade unlawfully obtained the sum of N170,000 belonging to the owner of the hotel, Matanmi Owolabi and diverted it to his personal use.
He added that the accused also stole N83,750 from the hotel management before he was apprehended by the police.
According to him, the offence committed is contrary to and punishable under section 383(1),390(6) and 516 of the criminal code laws of Ogun State 2006.
However, Akinlade pleaded not guilty to the charges filed against him.
The Magistrate, Sam Obaleye granted Akinlade bail of N50,000 with two sureties in the like sum.
Obaleye said the sureties must reside within jurisdictions of the court and must show evidence of tax payment to the Ogun State government.
The case was adjourned till February 25, 2019, for hearing.
