A Magistrate Court Sitting in Isabo, Abeokuta on Tuesday sentenced a 23-year-old painter, Oluwatobi Olaore to 14 days imprisonment for refusing to pay N7,000 he used to stake while playing bet9ja.
The Magistrate Mrs Sam Obaleye sentenced the convict after he pleaded guilty to a count-charge of causing breach of public peace.
Obaleye, however, gave the convict an option of N20,000 fine.
Earlier the Prosecutor, Sgt Adejoke Adebari told the court that the convict committed the offence on April 27th at about 8:30 pm at Ijaye area of Abeokuta.
Adebari said the convict went into the shop of one Zainab Tejuoso with the intention of playing bet9ja lotto with the amount of N7,000.
She added that the convict refused to pay the lotto business owner and also refused to drop the ticket the ticket.
According to her, “The convict was about running away before he was handed over to the Police.
“The offence committed is contrary to and punishable under section 249 of the Criminal Code Laws of Ogun State
2006” she said.
