The Ogun state chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party has distanced itself from the victory of the candidate of the All Progressive Congress, APC, Dapo Abiodun at the last governorship election in the state.
This was conveyed by the state deputy chairman of the party, Bamgbose Samson on Tuesday at the sideline of the inauguration of four new executives to fill vacant seats in the party.
The new executives are; Olusegun Awoyomi, State Organising Secretary; Adewunmi Alabi, women leader; Nike Ejioye, deputy women leader; and Sunkanmi Oyejide, Publicity secretary.
Bamgbose blamed the defeat suffered by the party at the last governorship election on a factional governorship candidate of the party, Hon Ladi Adebutu, who was elected as a member of the federal House of Representatives in 2015 under the same party.
It should be recalled recall that Adebutu was recognized by the national secretariat of PDP against Senator Buruji Kashamu who was recognized by the Independent National Electoral Commission and enjoyed the backing of the state executives.
Speaking on alleged Kashamu’s support and visit to congratulate the winner, Dapo Abiodun of APC, Bamgbose said that the visit does not translate to support for Abiodun.
“Fact is fact, opinion is free, you are free to say whatever you like. How could somebody dishing out millions, billions from his personal pocket to achieve a particular aim now agree to say, let me give it to another person? Buruji is not the kind of person; he is a very liberal person, the moment it has happened, he doesn’t care. Nothing like that.
“You can see what led to the fall of PDP in the last election, Ladi Adebutu about two or three hours to the election, he took his people to join APM, they wrote a communique sharing positions. So you can now see that the originator of that problem is Ladi Adebutu”
Bamgbose also refuted rumours that the state chairman of the party, Bayo Dayo has resigned.
He declared the rumour as baseless while explaining that the chairman has been out of the country for medical attention.
“Engineer Bayo Dayo remains the chairman of this party till tomorrow. He travelled to America a few weeks ago for medical attention and he would be back any moment. He is part and passel of this exco, no shaking. That is a toothless rumour.
“I am picking this from you for the first time; I talked to my chairman last night. I know my chairman remains my chairman and he would be back any moment.”
Also speaking about the party’s existence since it suffered loss during the governorship election in the state he said, “after the election, we have held two or three meetings, not state meetings. When it happens like that, we just have to remain calm because we politicians know what it takes and we must let the tension calm down before we can summon any move.
“So we have been holding senatorial meetings at our various senatorial districts; the local government meetings at various local government areas. I think it is almost two months and by now as politicians should be getting back to one’s form. We can now decide to call state executives meeting.
“PDP is very much intact. Some people say politics is a dirty game but it isn’t; it depends on how you play it. Assuming I am PDP, you are KBK and we contested for the same post; the moment you emerge the winner, I should congratulate you. That is how it should be. What is bad in a congratulatory visit.
“If you study the politicking very well, PDP globally is coming back geometrically not arithmetically. Previously we were having only 9 governors, now we have almost 16/17. Any seasoned politician now will see PDP as a force coming up and we all know what is coming up now at the Tribunal.
The party also mentioned that all it needs from the incoming administration is good governance.
“The only thing we are expecting from the incoming government is good governance, nothing short of that. Apart from that zero.”
