The Ogun Baptist Conference has demanded the immediate and unconditional release of the abducted Dapchi school girl, Leah Sharibu.
The Christian faithful lamented that the Federal Government has refused to negotiate the release of Leah Sharibu because she is a Christian.
The president Ogun Baptist Conference, Rev. Wale Oyeniyi said this on Wednesday during a press briefing at the church secretariat, Idi-Aba, Abeokuta.
Oyeniyi said, the Federal Government will be held responsible for anything that happens to the abducted Dapchi schoolgirl.
He added that, the recent information from another captive that Leah Sharibu might have been killed was worrisome news to Christians across the country.
The president however demanded the immediate and unconditional release of Sharibu.
He said “Some years ago, some satani and devil incarnates in the name of Boko Haram went to Government Girls’ Science and Technical Secondary School, Dapcho, Busari Local Government area of Yobe State to abduct some girls.
“After two weeks , the government was able to negotiate the release of all of them except Leah Sharibu. The reason we were told why Leah was not released was because she is a Christian. It is sad that the government, till today is unable to negotiate the release of that singular girl. We noted that it is not a crime and cannot be a crime for somebody to be a believer in the Lord Jesus. This country belongs to us all be it Christians or Muslims. Recent information from another captive that Leah Sharibu might have been killed is worrisome.
“Ogun Baptist Conference is demanding for an immediate and unconditional release of Leah Sharibu. We however commend the effort of the government for the release of other girls”.
