BY: Igbagboyemi Oladele

No less than three persons who were believed to be in their early twenty's have been killed by thunderstorm in Ijebu Ode area of Ogun state.

PLATFORM TIMES gathered that the incident occurred around 3:pm on Thursday following a heavy downpour.

According to investigation by our reporter, the deceased and one other were said to be riding on motorcycle but decided to wait inside the shelter for the rain to subside.

It was learnt that they hid in a nearby shelter along the former gateway hotel annex along the Ijebu Ode.

The heavy thunderstorm was said to have hit the three of them simultaneously while the fourth person took to his heels unhurt.

Eyewitness who was part of the crowd explained that the incident might not be out of ordinary as death by thunderstorm is usually as a result of punishment for a wrong doing.

The three corpses were still lying at the spot as at the time of filling this report.

Meanwhile, sympathizers have thronged  the scene  to have a glimpse of the incident and  were too distraught to speak with newsmen

It was observed that while officers of the Nigerian Police visited the scene, they could not remove  the corpses and did not touch a bag said to have belong to the deceased.

However, a sympathiser Ridwan identified one of the deceased and gave his name as Ayo from Imomo-Ijebu in ijebu North East local govt.

According to him Ayo is a motorcyclist and repairs fans. He was seen making frantic effort to inform his family.

Investigation revealed that nobody could touch or attempt to remove the corpses of anyone killed by thunderstorm until after the Yoruba rites to appease the god of thunder were done.
