Ogun State government has denied that the Monkeypox virus has been recorded in the state as against reports in some national dailies.

The State Commissioner for Health, Dr. Babatunde Ipaye, told newsmen on Tuesday at his office in Abeokuta that a test carried out by the ministry showed that the said patient was suffering from another virus.

The commissioner blamed an overzealous official of the ministry, who wrongly identified the virus and hurriedly informing the Federal Ministry of Health without following laid down procedures.

Dr. Ipaye however said that the state government would continue to emphasize primary prevention, particularly at densely populated areas.

He added that the ministry is ready to identify and isolate any disease of public health importance.

The commissioner enjoined members of the public to maintain high standard of personal and environmental hygiene in prevention mechanism to combat such contagious disease.
