Nigeria’s Sadiq Wins First Olympic Boxing Qualifier

Nigerian boxer Umar Sadiq has advanced into the next round after defeating Kenya’s Ochola Elly Ajowi at the AIBA 2016 Olympic qualification in Baku, Azerbaijan.

The fight was held on Day 2, third session of the Olympic qualifiers.

Fighting in the preliminaries, in the light heavyweight category, Sadiq was adjudged 3-0 winner on points.

He will now face Russia’s Petr Khamukov on Sunday in the afternoon session.

Meanwhile, Nigeria’s other boxer at the qualifiers, Efetobore Apochi, in the heavyweigth class, will face Karneyeu Siarhei from Belarus on Saturday in the evening session.

The AIBA 2016 Olympic World Qualification is the final qualifiers for places at this year’s Rio Olympic Games.
