The Ogun State All Progressives Congress Youth Leaders’ Forum has condemned the recent arrest of the APC Youth Leader in Ijebu Ode, Comrade Babatunde Aremu, labeling it as an unlawful act carried out in a Gestapo-style manner.

The Forum described the arrest, conducted by unidentified individuals, as a blatant violation of human rights and an affront to the rule of law.

In a strongly worded statement jointly signed by its Assistant State Youth Leader, Hon. Sabur Adefolu, and Public Relations Officer, Comrade Timothy Odedina, the Forum expressed outrage over the circumstances surrounding Aremu’s detention and issued a 24-hour ultimatum for his immediate and unconditional release.

The statement read partly, “we demand a clear explanation of the reasons for Comrade Aremu’s arrest, and we urge the Department of State Services (DSS) to either press formal charges or release him without delay.”

The Forum submitted that failure to adhere to these demands would reflect ongoing systemic oppression of Ogun State youths, drawing parallels to similar incidents in the past.

The group referenced the 2019 events at the M.K.O. Abiola Stadium, alleging that youths in the state have been repeatedly targeted through acts of violence and intimidation, which it said they claim are perpetrated by agents of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) posing as APC members.

The APC Youth Leaders’ Forum reiterated its support for Governor Dapo Abiodun, hailing him as a staunch advocate of youth empowerment and development.

The youth praised his administration for promoting peace and stability in Ogun State but voiced concerns that the recent arrest of Aremu could undermine the governor’s efforts.

“We stand behind Governor Abiodun, who has been a champion for youth development, but we will not tolerate any form of oppression against the youth in Ogun State,” the statement continued.

The group outlined a list of demands, including:the immediate release of Comrade Babatunde Aremu, full transparency regarding the reasons behind his arrest, respect for human rights and adherence to the rule of law and an end to the systemic oppression of Ogun State youths

The Forum warned that it would not remain silent in the face of continued intimidation, calling on all relevant authorities to ensure that justice is served.

As of press time, neither the Department of State Service nor any other official entity had provided a statement regarding Aremu’s arrest.

The State Youth Leaders’ Forum has vowed to pursue all available avenues to secure justice for Comrade Aremu, signaling their readiness to escalate the issue if necessary.
