Tragedy struck the quiet village of Matuak Giwa in Kaduna State as a lightning strike claimed the life of a young herder and twelve of his cattle.

PLATFORM TIMES reports that the incident occurred during a sudden downpour on Monday, leaving the community reeling in shock and grief.

According to Simon Ayuba, the Village Head of Matuak Giwa, the herder had sought refuge under a tree with his cattle when the lightning struck, instantly killing both him and the twelve cows.

“The herder, along with his twelve cows, died on the spot. It was a tragic occurrence that has left the community in mourning,” Ayuba solemnly stated.

The Ardo of Bondon District, Tanko Isiyaka, also expressed deep sorrow over the incident, revealing that the deceased herder hailed from Bauchi State. Isiyaka urged for prayers and support for the grieving family during this difficult time.

In accordance with Islamic traditions, the victim was laid to rest promptly after the incident.

The community remains in mourning as they come to terms with the sudden loss of one of their own and the unfortunate demise of the cattle, emphasizing the unpredictability and devastation that natural occurrences such as lightning strikes can bring.
