A Chieftain of the People’s Democratic Party, Otunba Segun Showunmi, has expressed profound shock and sorrow over the death of a close associate and confidant Alhaji AbdulSemiu Sobayo
PLATFORM TIMES reports that Sobayo died on Thursday and was buried same day at his house in Coyote Abeokuta.
Reacting to the death, Showunmi said the news of Sobayo’s passing came as a devastating blow, lamenting that he received the tragic news in disbelief early Thursday morning.
“When your wife woke me up with a call from your telephone very early yesterday, Thursday 30th January 2025, I picked it, thinking she wanted to report you to me over a normal domestic issue between you both,” Showunmi recounted emotionally. “I was dazed when she told me you had died.”
Showunmi continued, visibly shaken by the news, “I kept saying, ‘Did you say Sobayo is dead? How? When? Was he sick? Did he get into a fight?’ Only to be told you had an active night, woke up, and the rest is death. I am pained beyond words.”
Expressing his grief, Showunmi described his immediate reaction upon hearing the news. “I sent our people to rush to your house in the hope that I would be told it’s a lie. Alas, it is true. Gosh, oh Allah, please make the grave easy for AbdulSemiu. Oh Allah, forgive AbdulSemiu of his shortcomings.”
In his heartfelt tribute, Showunmi appealed for divine mercy and comfort for Sobayo’s family and the community he served diligently.
“Oh Ya Jamiu, You who would gather mankind at the hour of judgement, do raise AbdulSemiu among those you will admit into Paradise,” he prayed solemnly.
Reflecting on Sobayo’s significant role in their community, Showunmi remarked, “Oh Allah, look after his family and our people whom he used to lead. Oh great comforter, console us and help us to bear this irreparable loss of a man whose position will be difficult to fill. AbdulSemiu omo Sobayo.”
In conclusion, Showunmi offered his final respects, saying, “Orun Ire ooo. Igboore Asa, Ara Ake Majo. May your soul rest in peace, AbdulSemiu Sobayo.”
