A Magistrates’ Court in Ado Ekiti has ordered the remand of a 20-year-old woman, Joy Ikoja, for allegedly injuring her boyfriend, Ibrahim Usman, by tearing his scrotum.

Ikoja was arraigned on Tuesday by the Ekiti State Police Command over the incident, which reportedly occurred around 8pm on April 12 in the Irona area of Ado Ekiti.

Police prosecutor, Inspector Adeboye Adesegun, told the court that the defendant inflicted the injury during a dispute, adding that she also behaved in a manner likely to cause a breach of peace.

He said the offence contravened Sections 186, 255, 256(a), and 181(d) of the Criminal Laws of Ekiti State, 2021.

The prosecutor urged the court to deny the defendant bail, saying she might flee.

However, the defence counsel, David Ogbede, asked the court to grant bail, arguing that the defendant was still presumed innocent.

In his ruling, Magistrate Olatomiwa Daramola refused the bail application and ordered that Ikoja be remanded in the Ado Ekiti Correctional Centre.
