Former Ogun State Governor, Senator Ibikunle Amosun, has expressed deep sorrow over the passing of elder statesman and Afenifere leader, Chief Ayo Adebanjo, who died on Friday at the age of 96.
In a statement on Friday, Amosun described Adebanjo as a “courageous fighter and political titan” who dedicated his life to democracy, justice, and the advancement of the Yoruba people.
“Chief Adebanjo was a respected elder statesman, a champion of democracy, and a proud advocate for the Yoruba people who contributed immensely to the development of Ogun State, the South-West region, and Nigeria,” Amosun stated.
The former governor highlighted Adebanjo’s critical role in Nigeria’s political history, particularly his contributions to the National Democratic Coalition (NADECO) in the struggle against military rule.
He also noted the late Afenifere leader’s advocacy for restructuring and regional autonomy.
“His legacy of selfless service and courage will continue to inspire future generations of leaders and citizens,” Amosun added.
He extended condolences to Adebanjo’s widow, Chief Christy Ayo-Adebanjo, his children, and the entire family, praying for God to grant them the strength to bear the loss.
