Former Special Assistants (SAs) who served in the administration of ex-Governor Ibikunle Amosun have renewed their appeal to Governor Dapo Abiodun of Ogun State over the non-payment of their severance allowances, urging him to fulfill a promise made years ago.
The aggrieved aides, who served between 2015 and 2019, made their plea in an open letter signed by the coordinator of the group, Hon. (Otunba) Musiliu Oladeinde.
The forum appealed to Governor Abiodun for what they described as a “kind consideration” in approving and releasing their severance entitlements as stipulated by extant laws.
The former aides, under the aegis of the Former Special Assistants Forum, lamented the prolonged silence from the state government after what they claimed was an initial commitment by Governor Abiodun to address the matter.
“We have previously met with the Governor concerning the issue and he at that meeting promised to pay us, but since then, we have not heard anything from him,” the statement read in part.
The forum emphasized that severance payments are meant to serve as a financial buffer for former public office holders as they reintegrate into regular life, describing the non-payment as not only disappointing but also demoralizing for loyal members of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
They further called on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to wade into the matter, invoking the spirit of his “Renewed Hope” agenda to ensure their demands are met.
“While we commend the positive strides and developmental impacts of Your Excellencies at both federal and state levels, a timely release of our statutory allowances will go a long way to give us a sense of belonging and confidence in our party, the All Progressives Congress,” the statement added.
According to Oladeinde, the former aides remain committed and loyal members of the APC who played pivotal roles in the party’s rise to prominence in the state.
“Our contributions to the growth and entrenchment of the party in Ogun State are well known. We were at the vanguard of those who marketed the APC and made it a household name,” he said.
The group urged Governor Abiodun to act swiftly in ensuring justice is done and the outstanding allowances are paid without further delay.
