The Moshood Abiola Polytechnic (MAPOLY), Abeokuta, has joined a host of eminent Nigerians in mourning the death of Chief Olatunde Ayinla Abudu, OFR, MFR—an illustrious industrialist, philanthropist, and educationist—who passed away on Monday, June 9, 2025, at the age of 96.

Chief Abudu, the Mayegun of Egbaland and Oke-Ona Egba, was described by the institution as a visionary leader whose immense contributions to education and community development left an enduring legacy.

In a tribute signed by the Rector, Arc. Dr. B. Adekoyejo Jolaoso, the polytechnic community expressed deep sorrow over the demise of one of its earliest benefactors and Fellowship Award recipients, acknowledging his lifelong commitment to the advancement of knowledge, industry, and human capital.

“Though we received the news of his death with heavy hearts, we are grateful to Almighty Allah for the impactful life he lived,” the statement read.

Chief Abudu’s relationship with MAPOLY was marked by consistent acts of generosity.

He notably endowed scholarships for students and made significant donations to enhance educational activities within the institution.

A landmark of his benevolence is his ongoing contribution to the construction of a broadcast station building on campus, which is set to house MAPOLY Radio—a key initiative in the institution’s media and communication development.

The statement praised the late elder statesman for his exemplary work ethic, strategic insight, and leadership qualities, noting that his guidance helped nurture many professionals across various sectors.

Through companies he founded and mentored, Chief Abudu was credited with empowering individuals in entrepreneurship, human resource development, and business management.

His contributions, according to MAPOLY, extend far beyond the walls of the institution, reaching into the economic and industrial fabric of Egbaland and Nigeria at large.

“Today, and for generations to come, Chief Abudu’s impact will continue to be felt not only through his contributions to MAPOLY but also through the numerous lives he touched and transformed,” the tribute added.

MAPOLY prayed for the repose of his soul and comfort for his family, friends, business associates, and the people of Egbaland.

“Adieu, Chief Olatunde Ayinla Abudu. May your memory remain a source of inspiration to all.”
