A political group, Progressives Vanguard, has thrown its weight behind the 2027 governorship ambition of former Nigerian High Commissioner to the United Kingdom, Sarafa Tunji Isola, hailing him as a seasoned administrator with the pedigree to steer Ogun State toward accelerated development.
At a strategic meeting held on Tuesday, July 16, in Abeokuta, the Ogun State capital, the group—which draws membership from across the 20 local government areas of the state—formally endorsed Isola, citing his extensive experience in public service.
Speaking at the gathering, the group’s leader, Hon. Ayobami Makinde, emphasized the need for unity among supporters ahead of the next general elections, noting that Ogun needs tested and trusted leaders to reposition it.
“We’re not just supporting a candidate; we’re standing with a vision and track record,” Makinde declared. “Sarafa Tunji Isola has the experience, integrity, and leadership the state needs.”
Also speaking, Comrade Tunde Ajayi, the acting state secretary of the group from Obafemi Owode Local Government Area, said the meeting was convened to engage with Ishola on the next phase of his political journey.
“We’ve been on this journey since 2023, and it’s beyond politics for us. It’s about a future we believe in,” Ajayi said.
“We’re determined to walk this path with Hon. Sharafa until he emerges.”
A member of the group’s leaders’ forum, Olufemi Olomu, echoed similar sentiments, describing Ishola as a well-rounded public servant.
“Sarafa is not just qualified—he’s overqualified,” Olomu said.
“From local government chairman to Secretary to the State Government, a federal minister, and Nigeria’s High Commissioner to the UK, he’s seen it all. He understands governance inside out.”
Responding to the endorsements, Ishola, who served as Minister of Mines and Steel Development and Nigeria’s High Commissioner to the United Kingdom, thanked the group for its unwavering support, promising not to betray their confidence.
“I’m deeply humbled by your commitment and faith in me,” he said. “Together, we’ll take Ogun State to the next level. I won’t let you down.”
The group concluded the meeting with a renewed pledge to intensify grassroots mobil
