…17 Arms, 604 Ammunition Recovered by Police – Force PRO

In a resounding triumph against crime, the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun,on Friday, disclosed that the recently launched Special Intervention Squad (SIS) in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) has achieved remarkable success.
The IGP in a statement issued by the force Public Relations Officer, ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi said over the past two weeks, the IGP-SIS operations had resulted in the arrest of 139 suspects, the safe rescue of 154 kidnapped victims, and the recovery of 17 arms along with 604 pieces of ammunition.
Egbetokun added that the strategic initiative, aimed at fortifying the security architecture of the FCT, has proven highly effective.
He said the recovered arsenal includes 3 GPR Chargers, 2 AK-47 rifles, 1 Type-06, 4 locally fabricated guns, 1 Beretta pistol, 2 Makarov pistols, and 4 locally fabricated pump-action guns.
Egbetokun said law enforcement successfully seized 504 pieces of AK-47 ammunition and 100 pieces of AA ammunition during the operations.
According to him, among the notable achievements, the IGP-SIS intercepted a group of individuals along the Abuja-Kaduna expressway identified as major suppliers of arms and ammunition to bandits operating in Niger, Zamfara, and Kaduna States.
He said in a recent pre-dawn operation on January 26, 2024, IGP-SIS operatives engaged armed bandits within the FCT-Kaduna axis in a fierce gun battle, resulting in the neutralization of three individuals, including their notorious leader, Mai-Gemu (aka Gadoro).
He stated that the operation effectively dismantled the gang and obliterated their camp, marking a significant blow to criminal elements.
Earlier on January 21, 2024, the IGP-SIS successfully apprehended two major gun-running kingpins who had been supplying locally fabricated arms and various types of ammunition to assailants operating in the North-Central region.
In a separate operation, the squad arrested two kidnappers in the Jikwoyi area of the FCT, overwhelming the gang in a gun battle and recovering multiple arms and ammunition.
The rescue of the kidnapped victim underscored the effectiveness of the IGP-SIS in combating criminal activities.
Inspector-General of Police Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun reiterated the commitment to extend the SIS operations beyond the FCT, deploying operatives to other states across the country for comprehensive security management.
“ To address ongoing security breaches, the IGP ordered the tactical deployment of additional IGP-SIS operatives to areas within the FCT, ensuring a swift response to emerging criminal threats.
“The success of the IGP-SIS operations showcases a significant step forward in the nation’s efforts to combat crime and create a safer environment for its citizens.”
