Operatives of the Nigeria Police Force have arrested two suspected kidnappers and rescued a victim in Eket, Akwa Ibom State.
The Force Public Relations Officer, Muyiwa Adejobi, disclosed this in a statement on Sunday, noting that the operation followed a distress call on August 16 about an attempted kidnap along Factory Road, Afia Nsit.
According to him, the swift police response led to the rescue of the victim, identified simply as Emerson, and the arrest of two suspects — Okon Edem and Emmanuel Bassey.
Adejobi explained that a search of an uncompleted building in a nearby bush uncovered a cache of weapons, including an AK-47 rifle, an assault rifle, 67 rounds of ammunition, a pump-action shotgun with six live cartridges, six magazines, and a mobile phone allegedly belonging to the suspects.
He added that efforts are ongoing to track down other members of the gang who escaped during the operation.
In a related development, police operatives in Nasarawa State, on August 18, recovered firearms and over ₦6.9 million in cash following a vehicle crash in Angwan Mayo community, Garaku.
Adejobi said one suspect, Mohammed Tahir from Barkin Ladi, Plateau State, was arrested during a joint manhunt with the military.
He revealed that the suspect confessed to belonging to a seven-man kidnap syndicate behind the abduction of a lawyer in Nyanya, Abuja.
The police spokesman assured that the Force remains committed to dismantling criminal networks across the country and urged citizens to continue providing timely intelligence to aid security operations.
