Operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) have arrested a 52-year-old businessman, Ejiofor Godwin Emeka, at the Mallam Aminu Kano International Airport (MAKIA), Kano, after he excreted 127 wraps of cocaine concealed in his stomach and private parts.
According to a statement issued on Sunday by the NDLEA Director of Media and Advocacy, Femi Babafemi, Emeka, who operates boutiques in Lagos and Onitsha, Anambra State, was apprehended upon arrival from Bangkok, Thailand, aboard an Ethiopian Airlines flight (ET941) on Wednesday, October 8, 2025.
Following his arrest based on credible intelligence, the suspect was subjected to a body scan, which confirmed that he had ingested the illicit drug.
NDLEA officers also discovered 58 wraps of cocaine hidden in his underwear.
Emeka was thereafter placed under excretion observation, during which he expelled 69 additional wraps in seven rounds, bringing the total number of cocaine pellets recovered from him to 127, weighing 1.388 kilograms.
In the same development, NDLEA operatives at various courier companies in Lagos intercepted three separate shipments of narcotics bound for the United Kingdom, Turkey, Australia, and the United Arab Emirates between October 9 and 10.
The agency said the intercepted consignments included:1.74kg of methamphetamine concealed in glass ceramic blocks; 114 grams of pentazocine and 168 grams of tramadol injections;48 grams of tramadol capsules hidden in Vitamin C containers; 2.6kg of skunk and 422 grams of tapentadol 250mg concealed in black soap tablets;169 grams of cocaine hidden in women’s handbags; and 568 grams of Loud (a potent strain of cannabis) packed inside herbal containers.
NDLEA operatives at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport (MMIA), Ikeja, Lagos, also intercepted 27,510 pills of Rohypnol hidden in sachets of alcoholic drinks en route to South Africa.
The agency said follow-up operations led to the arrest of Samuel Omoruyi (alias Yellow), 46, identified as the mastermind behind the trafficking network.
Similarly, an Italy-based businessman, Enehizena Augustine Uyimwen, was arrested the same day while attempting to export 3,700 tramadol pills and 2,600 tapentadol tablets concealed in food items.
Uyimwen confessed to trafficking the opioids for another person in exchange for €945 (Nine Hundred and Forty-Five Euros).
Meanwhile, NDLEA operatives carried out multiple raids across Nigeria, leading to large-scale seizures of cannabis and other hard drugs in Edo, Osun, Rivers, Katsina, Niger, Ondo, and Kaduna states.
The NDLEA, under the leadership of Brig. Gen. Buba Marwa (rtd.), reiterated its commitment to dismantling transnational drug cartels and ensuring that Nigeria does not serve as a hub for illicit substance trafficking.
“The agency remains resolute in its mission to protect Nigeria from the menace of drug abuse and trafficking through strategic intelligence, inter-agency collaboration, and proactive enforcement,” the NDLEA spokesperson stated.
