Former Chief of Army Staff, Lt.-Gen. Faruk Yahaya (retd.), has dismissed as false, malicious and “entirely concocted” an allegation linking him to suspected terrorism financiers, vowing to take legal action against those behind the claim.
The allegation, credited to retired Maj.-Gen. Danjuma Ali-Keffi and published by Sahara Reporters, alleged that the former army chief had associations with individuals involved in terror funding.
But Yahaya, in a statement issued in Abuja on Saturday by retired Brig.-Gen. Sani Usman, said the publication was not only reckless but driven by vendetta.
He said: “At no point in his career — before, during or after serving as Chief of Army Staff — did Lt.-Gen. Faruk Yahaya have any direct or indirect association with anyone involved in terrorism financing or in activities that undermine national security.
The allegations are spurious, baseless and entirely untrue.”
Yahaya accused Ali-Keffi of orchestrating a smear campaign to settle “personal grievances” arising from disciplinary actions taken against him while in service.
According to him, the publication demonstrated journalistic irresponsibility.
“It is disturbing that Sahara Reporters chose to publish such serious allegations without verification. This is reckless, malicious and damaging to public trust,” the statement added.
Describing the report as an assault on his professional integrity, Yahaya said his record of service to Nigeria “speaks for itself,” stressing that he had devoted his entire career to protecting the country.
He demanded an immediate retraction from Ali-Keffi, Sahara Reporters and all platforms circulating the report, warning that failure to comply would force him to seek legal redress.
“If they fail to retract and apologise, they should be ready to meet us in court,” the statement warned.
Yahaya reaffirmed his commitment to Nigeria’s counter-terrorism efforts, saying the fight required truth and patriotism—not personal grudges disguised as public interest.
“Nigeria’s struggle against terrorism demands responsibility and sincerity, not propaganda driven by vendetta,” he added.
