Tragedy struck the Yola Campus of the Nigerian Law School over the weekend as a final-year student, Ayomiposi Ojajuni, reportedly took his own life after being barred from sitting the final bar examination.
Sources disclosed that PLATFORM TIMES that Ojajuni was prevented from beginning his exam on Saturday, December 6, after failing to respond to queries issued by the school authorities.
Further investigation revealed that one of the main issues was his failure to meet the mandatory class attendance requirement of 75 percent. Attendance is a strict prerequisite for eligibility to sit for the bar exams, the sources explained.
Eyewitnesses said the young law student reportedly ingested a poisonous substance immediately upon learning that his name was not on the list of eligible candidates.
He was rushed to the Modibbo Adama University Teaching Hospital in Yola, where he was pronounced dead on Sunday morning.
A source close to the incident described the development as “a heartbreaking response to academic disappointment,” noting that Ojajuni had shown signs of distress after being excluded from the examination roster.
This incident has reignited concerns over the mental health pressures facing law students and the urgent need for support systems to prevent similar tragedies.
The Nigerian Law School Yola Campus has not yet released an official statement regarding the incident.
