The Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) has confirmed that it received a formal petition from billionaire businessman Aliko Dangote accusing the Chief Executive Officer of the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA), Farouk Ahmed, of corruption and financial impropriety.
ICPC spokesperson John Okor Odey, in a statement on Tuesday, said the commission will investigate the allegations thoroughly.
“The ICPC writes to confirm that it received a formal petition today, Tuesday, 16th December 2025, from Alhaji Aliko Dangote through his lawyer. The petition is against the CEO of the NMDPRA, Alhaji Farouk Ahmed,” he said.
Dangote, in the petition, urged the anti-graft agency to arrest, investigate, and prosecute Ahmed for allegedly living far beyond his lawful means as a public servant.
According to the petition, Ahmed spent over $7 million to enroll his four children in various schools in Switzerland over six years—an amount Dangote claims could not be justified by Ahmed’s public service earnings.
The petition also detailed the names of Ahmed’s children, their schools, and the amounts paid for each, to aid ICPC in verifying the claims.
Dangote accused Ahmed of using his position at NMDPRA to embezzle and divert public funds for personal gain, an act he said contributed to unrest in the downstream petroleum sector.
Dangote stressed that the alleged actions constitute “gross acts of corruption” under Section 19 of the ICPC Act, which carries a maximum penalty of five years’ imprisonment without an option of a fine.
He also expressed readiness to provide evidence and called for decisive action to protect the integrity of public service and President Bola Tinubu’s administration.
The NMDPRA CEO has yet to respond to the allegations.
