The Ogun State Commissioner for Education, Science and Technology, Prof. Abayomi Arigbabu, has called on old students of public schools across the state to intensify support for their alma maters as Yewa Egbado College, Ilaro, marked its 75th anniversary with a high-profile fundraising ceremony in Lagos.
Arigbabu, who spoke at the event organised by the Egbado College Old Students’ Association (ECOSA), described alumni intervention as critical to restoring infrastructure, improving learning outcomes and complementing government efforts in the education sector.
The anniversary celebration, held at Eko Hotel and Towers, Victoria Island, attracted prominent Nigerians, including Senator Iyabode Anisulowo; Nigeria’s first elected female deputy governor, Alhaja Sinatu Ojikutu; former Vice-Chancellor of the University of Lagos, Prof. Rahman Bello; and retired and serving military officers, among other captains of industry.
Goodwill messages were delivered by Bello and other dignitaries, while opening prayers were led by Chief Mrs. Apampa.
A major highlight of the ceremony was the launch of a ₦20bn endowment fund aimed at the upliftment and development of the 75-year-old institution, which was described by organisers as an “iconic school” in Yewa land.
The fundraising drive, spearheaded by the current ECOSA executives under the Global President, Architect Niyi Dasaolu, reportedly attracted commitments running into several billions of naira for priority development projects.
Speaking at the event, Dasaolu said the association was determined to reposition the school through sustainable investments in infrastructure, academics and student welfare.
“This anniversary is not just about celebration; it is about rebuilding a legacy and preparing the college for another 75 years of excellence,” he said.
The one-week anniversary programme commenced on February 4 with the fundraising gala in Lagos and is scheduled to run until February 15, 2027, with a series of activities lined up at the school’s Ilaro campus and other locations.
PLATFORM TIMES reports that, Yewa Egbado College, founded in 1953, has produced notable leaders across politics, academia, the military and business sectors, and remains one of Ogun State’s most prominent secondary institutions.
