No fewer than 16 local government areas in Ekiti State shared a total of N13.6 billion as federal allocation between January and February 2025, findings by PLATFORM TIMES have revealed.
The data, which was sourced from BudgIT and analysed by PLATFORM TIMES, showed that Ado Local Government received the lion’s share, raking in N1.11 billion over the two months—N503.9 million in January and N614.9 million in February.
Following Ado were Ijero and Ekiti West LGAs, which received N974.4 million and N900.4 million respectively.
Ijero, located near the North Central boundary, got N438 million in January and N536.4 million in February.
Ekiti West, home to the tourist-attracting Ikogosi Warm Spring, received N404.3 million in January and N496 million in February.
Other high-earning LGAs include: Ikole LGA collected N894.5 million (N401.5m in January; N493m in February), Ido-Osi LGA received N885.4 million (N396.8m in January; N487.6m in February), Ikere LGA had N848.1 million (N380.4m in January; N467.7m in February), Aiyekere LGA: received N846.2 million (N379.6m in January; N466.6m in February) and Moba LGA, where the Ero Dam and Lake are located, received N846.4 million (N379.7m in January; N466.8m in February)
Others include: Ekiti East received N830.3m, Oye got N824.2m, Irepodun had N813.2m, Ise/Orun collected N789.4m, Efon received N767.1m and Emure got N747.8 million
Ilejemeje LGA recorded the lowest allocation among the 16 LGAs, with a total of N655.8 million—N292.9 million in January and N362.9 million in February.
The allocations reflect statutory federal disbursements to local governments for administrative and developmental purposes.
However, analysts have continued to raise concerns about transparency and accountability in the utilisation of such funds at the grassroots level.
Efforts to reach Ekiti State government officials and local government chairmen for comment on the utilisation of the allocations were ongoing as of the time of filing this report.
