After a long and controversial suspension, Justice Babajide Aladejana, a former judge of the Ekiti State High Court, has been reinstated by the National Judicial Council (NJC).
Justice Aladejana’s suspension, which began in 2006, was part of the fallout from a political crisis that saw the impeachment of former Ekiti State Governor Ayodele Fayose.
Justice Aladejana was suspended alongside former Chief Judge of Ekiti State, Justice Kayode Bamisile, both of whom were accused of playing a role in the crisis that led to the then Ekiti State Governor, Ayodele Fayose’s impeachment.
The judges were alleged to have been involved in the N1.4 billion poultry scandal, abuse of office, and illegal operation of a foreign account.
Following a review of his suspension, Justice Aladejana resumed work on Tuesday, February 28, 2023, and was assigned to High Court 2.
The reinstatement has been greeted with mixed reactions, with some praising the NJC for taking a bold step while others have expressed concern over the integrity of the judiciary.
However, Justice Aladejana’s reinstatement is expected to have a significant impact on the judicial system in Ekiti State, as he brings with him a wealth of experience and expertise. His return to the bench is seen by many as a positive development that will help restore confidence in the judiciary.
It remains to be seen what the future holds for Justice Aladejana and how his reinstatement will impact the ongoing efforts to reform the Nigerian judiciary. However, for now, the judge has resumed his duties and is expected to play a key role in dispensing justice in Ekiti State.
