Out of 1,972 women screened for cervical cancer in Adamawa State, 165 have tested positive.

This was disclosed on Tuesday during a meeting of the state task force on primary health care, organised by the Adamawa State Primary Health Care Development Agency at the Government House in Yola.

Deputy Governor Professor Kaletapwa Farauta, disclosing the fact of the 165 women identified as positive cases, said the affected women would undergo further evaluation for them to receive necessary care.

She explained that the meeting of the state task force on primary health care was convened for state and non-state actors to assess the accomplishments and challenges of the last routine immunisation exercise from January to July 2024. Farauta commended the successes of the cervical cancer awareness campaign and screening across the 21 local government areas of the state.

The meeting also addressed the recent outbreak of acute watery diarrhoea in Yola North, which claimed at least four lives.

The deputy governor directed health workers to respond efficiently to the outbreak and urged other stakeholders to rise to their responsibilities.

The secretary of the Adamawa State chapter of the Association of Local Governments of Nigeria, ALGON, Idris Yahaya, affirmed the commitment of local government chairmen to enhance the health and well-being of the people.
