…vows to wrestle governorship ticket
There seems to be palpable fear and worry in the camp of Ogun State governor ,Senator Ibikunle Amosun as the biggest challenger, an oil magnate , Prince Dapo Abiodun has reportedly shrunk the governor’s camp.
PLATFORM TIMES gathered that some loyalists of Amosun had dumped him for Abiodun as the All Progressives Congress in the state prepares for the primary.
PLATFORM TIMES further observed that except the situasion was properly managed , the APC may be sitting on a ‘political gun powder’ as former member of House of Represebtives who represented Yewa-south / Ipokia federal constituency Hon Abiodun Ishaq Akinlade, former commissioner for Forestry Ayo Olubori and a governorship aspirant , Simeon Hunyen among others habe joined the Abiodun group.
PLATFORM TIMES however, could not ascertain whether former Commissioner for Commerce and Industry Hon Bimbo Ashiru has joined Abiodun aspiration who hails from Ogun East Senatorial district.
It was further gathered that a number of others were currently regrouping against the consensus arrangement of the governor Amosun.
Hon Ishaq Akinlade has recently joined the Dapo Abiodun’s movement after being denied the endorsement by the governor.
Akinlade had however resolved to join force with Prince Dapo Abiodun as his running mate.
Prince Dapo who has obtained the governorship nomination and expression of interest form from the national Secretariat of the party was a guest to Akinlade recently where they concluded plans to wrestle power with the governor’s anointed candidate Hon Abdulkabir Akinlade.
Investigations by PLATFORM TIMES revealed that Simeon Hunyen who hailed from the same base with governor Amosun’s anointed candidate in Ipokia local government Adekunle Akinlade is said to be set to join the Dapo Abiodun’s team.
It should be recalled that the state leadership of the APC has resolved and adopted the indirect form of primary in the state if the consensus arrangement fails eventually.
When contacted on the development, the Director of Media of the Dapo Abiodun campaign organisation, Mr Emmanuel Ojo said there is no doubt the party will conduct a direct primary in the state adding that it is a verdict by the national leadership.
His words,” Whatever happened today at the MTR hall was a shadow of itself because it is not all the stakeholders that are present in the meeting.
“For us we are in a joyous mood as our fold continues to wax stronger because we have just welcome Hon Akinlade Abiodun Isiaq and his supporters into our political fold.
“He received Prince Dr. Dapo Abiodun MFR at his country home in Owode Yewa this afternoon.
“In attendance we have all Dapo Abiodun Political leaders from Ogun West, East and Central, Rt. Hon Egbetokun, Hon Ayo Olubori, Hon Jolaosho, Engineer Tunji Akinosi, Hon Babatunde Olaotan HBO and a host of others.
“This is an addition which points towards the fact that Prince Dapo Abiodun is a governorship aspirant that has strong root, relationship and connection across the state.”
In the same vein, Hon Bimbo Ashiru, two former deputy governors of the state Prince Segun Adesegun, and Senator Gbenga Kaka, aide to the Kano state governor Mr Jimi Lawal among others are also against the decision of the governor to elect the party candidate through consensus arrangement .
