Court sentences man to six months imprisonment for stealing phone, wrist watch

An Ogun State Magistrate Court sitting in Isabo Abeokuta has sentenced a 23-year-old man, Ayo Ismail to six-months imprisonment for stealing a Samsung phone worth N120,000 and a wristwatch worth N15,000.

The Magistrate, Mr Olalekan Oke, sentenced the convict after he was found guilty of a two-count charge of burglary and stealing.

Oke said the prosecution has proven the case beyond reasonable doubt, adding that the convict was guilty as charged.

The magistrate sentenced Ismail to six months imprisonment with an option of N60,000 fine.

Earlier, in the prosecution brief, the Prosecutor, Insp. Matthew Famuyiwa had told the court that the convict committed the offence on Nov. 17, 2018, at Obada Oko area of Abeokuta.

Famuyiwa said, the convict unlawfully broke into the house of Mr Boboye Ekundayo and stole a Samsung X5 phone valued N120,000 and a Silver wrist watch valued N15,000 all valued N135,000.

The Prosecutor stated that the offence committed is contrary to and punishable under section 390(9) and 411of the Criminal code Laws of Ogun State 2006.
