The Ogun state government has disclosed its plan to reduce the population of beggars and vagrant lunatics in the State, particularly, Abeokuta, the State capital.
The Ogun State Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Development said it would intensified its efforts at rehabilitating destitute to ensure sanity in the State.
The Director, Social Welfare Services, Mr. Olurotimi Sotunbo who stated this in a report, revealed that monitoring of beggars at Beggars Temporary Shed, Lafenwa, Destitute at Juvenile Correctional Home, Asero, as well as the 12 Vagrant Lunatics at Ademola Mental Hospital, Abeokuta, was to ensure that they were adequately taken care of.
Sotunbo added that the Ministry, in collaboration with the State Ministry of Justice, held a consultative forum in Abeokuta, to promote communication, cooperation and get rid of the ‘blame culture or silo mentality’ among stakeholders in the judicial sector.
The Director added that the State Chapter of Child Protection Network (CPN) meeting was also held to appraise its progress, deliberate on different issues affecting the Network and come up with plans for the year.
