An Ogun State Magistrate court sitting in Isabo, Abeokuta has sentenced a 27- year old man, Monday Olubayo to one-month imprisonment for stealing handbag and phones valued N17,000.
Olubayo was sentenced after pleading guilty to a count charge of stealing.
During the ruling, the Magistrate, Mrs Sam Obaleye said, the prosecution has proven its case beyond reasonable doubt.
She, therefore, sentenced the convict to one-month imprisonment with an option of N10,000 fine.
Earlier, the Prosecutor Sgt. Adejoke Adebari told the court that the defendant committed the offence on March 4th at about at No 9 Oluwalose street Olorunbe Ijeun Titun area of Abeokuta.
Adebari said the defendant unlawfully broke into the house of the complainant, Omobolanle Adebayo while she was out of her apartment to fetch water.
“On getting back to her room she met the defendant holding her two phones and handbags containing her makeup kits all valued N17,000.
“She was shocked and started shouting thief, the neighbours came out and drag him to the Baale’s house before he was later handed over to the police.”
The Prosecutor stated that the offence committed is contrary to and punishable under section 383(1) and section 390(9) of the criminal code laws of Ogun State 2006.
