The Students union government of the Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta on Monday inaugurated a car park worth five million naira to ease cars and buses positioning for easy access of the students.
The park which was named after President Muhammadu Buhari was inaugurated by the Vice-chancellor of the University, Prof Felix Salako.
Before cutting the ribbon, the VC appreciated the students and the executives of the union for their good conduct which has led to the achievement of this feat.
Prof Salako also described the project as one which will alleviate the suffering of the students while waiting for vehicles after lectures on a daily basis.
He said, ”It is going to be a lot of relieve for commercial vehicles plying the gate to the campus and definitely people are going to have a space to sit while waiting for vehicles, the commercial vehicles will also be relieved having a conducive environment to really do their work. This project will go a long way in term of community relationships.
“One thing I want the students to realize is that, they are part and parcel of the environment, although, our students have been very good, I mentioned it, we have a body called the ‘man o war’ they rehabilitate our road from the school to Ibadan expressway and they have been doing this for years now and just last year when we have disturbance of the rain (flooding) on our road, student were the ones who assisted in spreading the gravel that we bought on the road, just to alleviate the falling frustration.
“Also, we have some community where students also assist a lot in information communication technology ICT training voluntary without any charges. I can tell you that our students have impacted knowledge in their little ways.”
Speaking with journalists shortly after the event, the Union’s President, Ayobami Popoola expressed his happiness over the completion of the project adding that it is a dream come through.
He also added that the car park will salvage one of the problems affecting the institution.
“This is going to be a welcome development because we have just been able to salvage one of the problems affecting the university, which is a key factor to the growth of the university.
“What we have just done is, one of its kind which is a landmark in the history of students’ unionism and we have not had any regret for embarking on this project.”
