Court remands teenager for stealing N5,000

An Ogun State Magistrate court sitting in Isabo, Abeokuta has ordered that an 18-year-old boy, Lekan Oluranti be remanded in foster home for allegedly stealing the sum of N5,000 and a Techno phone valued N3,000.

The Magistrate, Sam Obaleye ordered the remand after the defendant pleaded guilty to the charges against him.

The Prosecutor, Sgt. Adejoke Adebari told the court that the defendant committed the offence on April 13th at about 3 pm at Saje area of Abeokuta.

Adebari said the defendant had come to work with some bricklayers on a construction site before he stole the some of N5,000 and a Techno phone belonging to one Abass Ogundele and Oke Efon respectively.

She said the offence committed is contrary to and punishable under section 390 of the criminal code laws of Ogun State 2006.

When asked why he stole the money and phone, the teenager simply said he was hungry.

The case was adjourned till May 2nd for judgement.
