Landlord docked for allegedly assaulting tenant

A landlord, Taofiq Ariyo who allegedly assaulted a female tenant on Thursday appeared before an Ogun State Magistrate court sitting in Isabo Abeokuta.

The defendant is facing a count charge of assault.

The Prosecutor Sgt. Bonnyface Agboh told the court that the defendant committed the offence on April 14th at Ilagbe Oke-Lantoro area of Abeokuta.

Agboh said the defendant assaulted the complainant by giving her fist blow on her mouth causing her bodily harm.

He said the complainant, one Tayo Oyebanjo arrived her apartment around 10 pm but the landlord prevented her from entering her room, following which argument ensued between them.

According to the Prosecutor, the offence committed is contrary to and punishable under section 355 of the criminal code laws of Ogun State 2006.

However, the defendant pleaded not guilty to the charge.

The Magistrate O.A Onagoruwa granted the defendant bail in the sum of N150,000 with two sureties in like sum.

Onagoruwa said the sureties must reside within the court’s jurisdiction and must show evidence of tax payment to the Ogun State Government.

The case was adjourned till May 2 for adoption of final written address or a no case submission.
