The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) has called on anti-corruption agencies to investigate the Ogun state Chairman of Labour Party, Comrade Arabambi Abayomi.
NANS made the call in a protest walk in Abeokuta, Ogun state capital, calling on the National Working Committee of the party to sack Arabambi from the office of the Chairman.
While addressing pressmen, NANS Public Relations Officer, Azeez Adeyemi claimed Arabambi has dragged the name of Labour party to the mud.
He argued that the party is expected to be the political home for Comrades who has maximal interest in restoring decency to governance.
“Labour Party is the political home for the ideologically equipped and integrity conscious comrades, who are maximally interested in restoring decency, dignity and decorum to governance and government processes of our dear country.”
Adeyemi also alleged that, Arabambi was using the name of the party to fraudulently amass wealth for himself.
His words, “NANS has noticed that Arabambi Abayomi had successfully destroyed the political home of comrades (LP) thereby sees it as his own means of livelihood, where he’d acquired wealth and resources abnormally.
“NANS calls on LP NWC and NLC to as a matter of urgency and necessity declare Arabambi Abayomi, persona non grata, and calls on NWC OF LP and NLC to sack Arabambi Abayomi from the party and all activities of the party.”
Adeyemi, therefore, called on the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) and the Independent Corrupt Practices and other Related Offences Commission to investigate the party Chairman.
“NANS also calls on ICPC and EFCC to investigate the fraudulently acquired resources of Abayomi Arabambi.” He stated.
In a swift reaction, The party Chairman, Com. Arabambi described the protest as an APC induced protest with the aim of compelling him to withdraw the Labour Party petition against the ruling party and the governor-elect at the tribunal but vehemently vowed that he will continue with the case.
He said, ” This is not a serious issue as far as I am concerned, the boy who led this protest is the Campaign Deputy Director for youths and students of Dapo Abiodun campaign organisation, and he who pays the piper dictates the tone.
“This is clearly another child move by the APC to make me withdraw my petition from the tribunal but I want to loudly say again that, it can’t work and I will not withdraw this case.
“You can imagine that the boy in question has been in school for almost 20 years now, How can a boy like that speak and I will be taking it serious but even at that, I am responding now just to reiterate that I, Abayomi Arabambi will not withdraw our petition and to as well send him back to his paymasters.
“Also I want to advise him as a father that he should face his studies squarely and not allow anyone use him for selfish interest, the same interest that will better the lots of their own children at his( NANS PRO) own interest.” He added
