Ogun state governor, Senator Ibikunle Amosun has launched an agency meant to better interface between the government and the business communities within the state.
Amosun launched the agency named Ogun state Investment Promotion and Facilitation Agency with the view to better facilitate investors into the state by strengthening the relationships between the government and the duo of existing and new investors.
The governor who was represented by the Secretary to the state government Barr. Taiwo Adeoluwa explained that the Agency was established through an Executive Order, but added that the fate of the agency after the exit of the sitting administration prompted it to transmute an executive bill in the same respect to the state House of Assembly.
Adeoluwa, however, added that the bill has scaled through the second reading in the floor of the house.
“OgunInvest will also serve as a friend of business within government, and this has been broadened to ensure that successes recorded by our government in the area of investment are sustained.
“As at now, our GDP and economy are growing faster than the national average. We have also attracted over 75% of the Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) in Nigeria to our state.
“In terms of IGR, we are only second to Lagos State and we even plan to overtake the state. So in order to put Ogun on the path of irreversible economic growth and development, we have established this agency, to ensure we move the state further on high economic pedestal and improve our rating in the ease of doing business index.”
When asked the fate of the agency when the new administration assumes office, he said ” I am not a member of the assembly but we have the assurance by the legislators that the bill will be passed in the life of the 8th assembly. ”
On her part, the Special Adviser to the governor on Oguninvest, Mrs. Babi Subair appreciated the giant stride of the governor in attracting investors to the state adding that Oguninvest will further boost the state’s Internally generated revenue.
According to her, the new agency has been charged with the responsibility to develop and implement a comprehensive investment promotion strategy to attract and facilitate new investments in the State and to further strengthen relationships with existing and new investors.
Her words, “Every effort of this current Administration including the expansive infrastructural development since May 2011 is targeted at Investment Promotion in Ogun State. Therefore it is my great pleasure and honour to welcome you to today’s event which no doubt is one of the best legacies laid to drive investment and economic growth in Ogun State.
“The establishment of the Ogun State Investment Promotion and Facilitation Agency-OgunInvest will further improve the socio-economic development across the State through a boost in internally generated revenue and through job creation both direct and indirect.
“OGUNINVEST has been given the mandate to develop and implement a comprehensive investment promotion strategy to attract and facilitate new investments in the State and to further strengthen relationships with existing and new investors to support collaboration leading to the long-term growth of the investors and the State’s priority sectors/value chains.
“Thereby fostering an investor-friendly environment able to attract Domestic and International investment. As the complex nature of investment projects normally requires interaction with several different Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs), OgunInvest is also geared to help investors coordinate and facilitate the State’s multi-agency collaboration in a manner that is consistent with good governance.
“OgunInvest will lead on investment promotion activities such as Greenfield investments, lead generation, investor targeting, and investor aftercare activities, as well as sector-specific policy advocacy.
“I would like to use this medium to acknowledge the positive impact of our existing investors and to encourage a continued cordial relationship as we look forward to improve our services to our businesses and industries.”
