The Police on Friday arraigned a 21-year old man, Sulaiman Abdulahi before an Ogun Magistrates Court sitting in Isabo Abeokuta over alleged theft of iron rods valued N3,000.
The defendant whose address not provided is facing a two-count charge, bordering on stealing and unlawful damage.
The Prosecutor, Insp. Olu Balogun Lawerence told the court that the defendant committed the offence on May 22nd at about 10:30 pm at Kemta Housing Estate in Abeokuta, the state capital.
Lawrence stated that the defendant stole iron rods belonging to Kemta Housing Estate Abeokuta.
He also stated that the defendant unlawfully destroyed the Estate drainage with stones.
The Prosecutor said the offence committed is contrary to and punishable under sections 390(9) and 451 of the Criminal Code Laws of Ogun State, 2006
However, the defendant pleaded not guilty to the charge.
The Magistrate, Mr Olakulehin Oke granted the defendant bail in the sum of N30,000 with one surety in like sum.
Oke said the surety must be gainfully employed and show evidence of tax payment to the Ogun State government.
The case was adjourned till June 11 for trial.
