The new Commissioner of Police in Ogun State, Imohimi Edgal has vowed that he would continue to fight corrupt officers of the command except they follow his mission to make the state crime free.
Edgal stated that his strategy in curbing crime activities in the state would be centered on community policing.
The Commissioner of Police said this on Tuesday while addressing the press at the Police Headquarter, Eleweran, Abeokuta.
He claimed that one of the factors to fight crime in the state is to restore the trust and confidence from residents.
The Commissioner of Police explained that perpetrators of criminals were increasing in the state because the command lacks police visibility.
He however announced the establishment of citizen compliant hot center at the headquarter, advising residents to complain misconduct of police officers.
He said, the purpose of the complaint center is to identify and sanction corrupt police officers who don’t want to key into his vision.
He warned officers of the command to desist from any form of bribery or corruption.
“I will ensure that my officers and I that will police the state have people in their mind. We are here to serve and protect.
“I mentioned that my policing philosophy is community policing and safety partnerships. One important element of community policing is that word partnership and of course you cannot have partnership with people if they have lost trust and confidence in you.
“Everybody knows the Nigerian police. One of the thing that we must do to win back trust and confidence from the people is to report police misconduct to us. We are aware that we have bad eggs among us just like we have good ones we also have bad ones, so we want to flush out bad ones out of the system.
“That is why I said that I’m going to launch the citizens complaint hot center and am happy to inform that i have set it up. It is a center opened 24/7 so as to report the activities of my men. If u see anyone who is misbehaving just call any of the numbers either in your local egba dialect, English, Hausa or Igbo. I want to assure you that your complaint will be taken and actions will be carried out. I want to assure you that I will sanction any erring member. Any policeman or woman who asks you for money before your matter is being taken just call the number. If your right is being infringed by police just call any of the numbers”.
