The Vigilante Group of Nigeria (VGN) Ogun State Command has warned Governors in the Southwest States to be conscious of people they would appoint to control the Western Nigeria Security Network.

The State Commander of VGN, Nureni Adedoyin made this call on Monday while addressing newsmen at the command headquarters in Abeokuta.

Adedoyin stated that insecurity has gone beyond what only the Federal and State Government could tackle alone.

He lauded plans of the Southwest Governors to establish a Western Nigeria Security Network, popularly called Amotekun.

Adedoyin explained that the Western Nigeria Security Network was the only solution to insecurity in the Southwest region.

He maintained that insecurity in Nigeria would be resolved only when government begins security awareness from grassroot.

Adedoyin advised Southwest Governors and the DAWN Commission to appoint only qualified candidates for the Western Nigeria Security Network, saying it would safe the commission from creating loopholes for criminals.

He noted that his command alongside other VGN in Southwest were ready for the establishment of the security network.

“I will advise both the governors in the south west as well as management of DAWN commission to make sure that they carry out screening of all people that will be used for this Amotekun operation especially those that will champion the course in the state so that we don’t put in place people who have criminal records.

“To avoid people of questionable characters, the screening should be taken care of by DSS, Police and all necessary agencies when names are forwarded to them. Doing this will save it from creating loopholes for criminals.

“The steps taken by the six governors in the south west to establish Western Nigeria Security Network named as Amotekun is a very laudable one because if you look at security issue in this country, security has become issues which only federal government cannot tackle except federal government is ready to work hand in a glove with state governments and the local governments. That is the only solution if we don’t want to deceive ourselves.

“We were at DAWN office to discuss how we can partner and work with the governors in the states through our respective commands in making sure that we can ensure peace and tranquility across the south western states” he said.
