The Accountant -General of Ogun State has condemned the messages sent to thousands of civil servants in the state on the opening of account by Access Bank Plc.
The Accountant -General described the messages as illegal opening of salary account.
The Permanent Secretary office of the Accountant -General, M.O Idowu in a statement on Wednesday said office of the Accountant -General is the only custodian of financial regulations in the state.
He stated that his office would not be part of the illegal operations by Access Bank Plc.
He noted that the State Government would never give any bank a license to open a salary account for the entire Ogun State workers.
Idowu however called on civil servants in the state to disregard the messages sent by Access Bank Plc.
The Permanent Secretary said”This office received with great shock the opening messages sent to thousands of Ogun State workers on the opening of Account by Access Bank Plc with the clause that a debit card is ready for collection.
“Office of the Accountant -General is the custodian of the Financial regulations, hence , it cannot be part of this illegal operations by Access Bank Plc. By law, each individual has the right to open an account with the bank of his of her choice. Secondly, the right to obtain loan at any bank is available to each individual and the law stipulates that until when you have liquidated your loan in one bank, you cannot move to another bank. Knowing fully that the law is in existence, the present administration led by Prince Dapo Abiodun and the office of the Accountant -General will never give any bank a license to open a Salary Account for the entire Ogun State Workers.
“The office hereby is using this medium to debunk the rumour going round the town that his Excellency Prince Dapo Abiodun and the office of the Accountant – General have approved Access Bank to open account for all Ogun State Workers.
“We are using this medium to appreciate your calmness these messages from Access Bank and promise that this Government will not infringe on the right of any workers of Ogun State”.
