Pandemonium broke out in Abeokuta, the capital of Ogun State when some hoodlums reportedly attacked an aspirant of the All Progressives Congress vying for the seat of Local Government Chairman in Abeokuta North Local Government of Ogun State, Hon. Wale Bello.
PLATFORM TIMES gathered that suspected thugs also macheted and injured some of his supporters who were at the scene.
PLATFORM TIMES reliably gathered that, the attack happened on Friday around 3:40pm at the Abeokuta North Local Government Secretariat in Akomoje.
PLATFORM TIMES learnt that the suspected thugs were loyalists to one Ishola Tajudeen, who is also a chairmanship aspirant contesting against Bello.
A reliable source told PLATFORM TIMES that the incident happened when Bello and his supporters had gathered at the Secretariat to celebrate the swearing-in ceremony of the newly appointed transition committee of the local government.
The source further hinted that, the attack was because the opponent employed the service of the thugs when he was informed of the intimidating crowd that accompanied Bello
It was also gathered that Bello’s supporters were forced to remove the Bello caps on their heads
In his reaction, the Chairmanship aspirant, confirmed the incident.
Bello, who spoke through his personal assistant said the thugs attempted to attack him, but he escaped by giving them money.
He noted that the hoodlums macheted and injured some of his supporters in the attack.
He maintained that many of the injured victims of the attack have been healed, while two others are still receiving medical treatment at the hospital.
The Chairman called on security agencies in the state to increase security measures across the state.
