The Nigeria Labour Congress, Ogun State Chapter has appealed to Governor, Dapo Abiodun to look into the issue of debt the immediate past administration owed them.

The State Chairman of NLC, Comrade Emmanuel Bankole made this plea on Wednesday while addressing newsmen on the N30,500 new minimum wage approved by the state government.

Bankole said, workers in the state have sacrificed and they are expecting the payment of their arrears.

He appealed to the government to resolve other issues that concern workers in the state.

The Union leader stressed that, the N30,500 minimum wage would increase productivity in the state.

Bankole maintained that the Union agreed on the amount after considering the affordability and sustainability factors.

He argued that , the minimum wage would make the state to be investors choice.

Bankole noted that, the payment would take effect from January 2020.

He said “It gladdens my hear to inform the good people of Ogun that yesterday night we were able to strike an agreement with the government on behalf of organised labour in Ogun state. As far as minimum wage is concerned in Ogun State we were able to get something above the minimum of N30,000, we got N30,500 for this paid workers in Ogun state public service   N30,500 will be their minimum wage. We were able to get above the national minimum wage.

“Again, we were able to do the consequential adjustment for all other levels and some of them we were able to get something even more, for instance grade level  07 , what you have with the federal is 23.3 we were able to get 27% for grade 07. To us, its a good deal considering some other factors like the affordability and sustainability , we don’t want to just earn a salary once and unable to sustain this, so it is after a serious consideration of all these factors that we were able to strike this agreement with the government .The commencement day will be from January 2020.

“We made commitment on behalf of working people of Ogun State that we are going to use this as Synergizer to synergize us to effective service delivery , particularly that dream to taking Ogun State to investors choice. We are going to demonstrate this by way of being diligent on our duties, on part of workers, we have given this commitment to enhance productivity and we also appeal to the government because ordinarily  we are looking for more arrears  of months , so its a sacrifice on the part of the workers , so we also expect that government so also will address so many other issues that are still there to be addressed”.
