Ogun State Governor, Dapo Abiodun on Tuesday swore in Hon. Abolurin Abiola as a replacement for Saibu Mulero who died few hours before his screening by the State House of Assembly last month.
The Governor sworn Abiola in at the Governor’s conference room, Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta.
Abiodun disclosed that he has instructed law enforcement agencies to ensure that local government councils in the border areas are given priority in terms of equipment to ensure that the trans-border crimes are brought down to the barest minimum.
“I have instructed the law enforcement agencies to ensure that the local governments that are in our border areas be given priority attention in terms of the equipment that we are currently distributing across the state because of the peculiarities of these local governments.
“I am sure in the coming days, you will be seeing new motorcycles, vehicles, new telecommunication devices that we will be giving to you. They are not just to the law enforcement agencies, but even to the local government chairmen as well. So, that you are in touch with the local security people but to Divisional Police Officers, Police Posts and even the Commissioner of Police himself.
“Your local government is important to us and we know you have your peculiarities. You are one of the local governments that are border local governments and we know some of the challenges that you are currently facing. But, be rest assured that every part of this state is very important to this government and we will do everything that we need to do to give you the support that you need”.
The governor charged the newly sworn in Transition Committee Chairman of Ipokia Local Government to take the task of overseeing the affairs of the local government as a serious and enormous task.
“I want to use this opportunity to charge the chairman, that you must take this task as an enormous and serious responsibility. You must accept that this appointment is that which puts in you a high level of trust and confidence and that providence itself has made you chairman of this council and the least you can do is to show appreciation by demonstrating leadership, by ensuring that you do not let us down. This confidence that we have so reposed in you is that which requires you to perform,” he said.
While inaugurating the new executive council of the local government, Gov. Abiodun announced that the deceased wife be made the secretary of the transition committee after she would have finished her mandatory period of mourning the husband.
The governor while urging him to work in harmony with his team, added that he should be connected to his people, closer to the grassroots and also ensure that he connects with the traditional institutions.
“You must ensure that you work in harmony with other members of your executive council. So that you are able to not just achieve the goals we will be setting out for you, but that you surpass them. Please do the needful – be connected with your people – you are the closet to the grassroots. Be connected with the traditional institutions, so that you can get the necessary feedback,” he said.
In his remarks, the transition committee chairman, Ipokia Local Government, Hon. Abolurin Kabiru Abiola noted that he would alongside members of his team surpass all expectations, saying that he would put in place good governance for the people of the area.
