Angry mob set Dangote trucks ablaze after crushing seven to death in Ogun

Pandemonium broke out in Ota area of Ogun state on Saturday when some irate mob set a Dangote truck ablaze for allegedly crushing seven persons to death.

PLATFORM TIMES learnt that two dangote trucks reportedly loaded with cements crushed a space wagon and a volks wagen yellow coloured passengers bus.

PLATFORM TIMES also learnt that 10 persons also sustained various degrees of injury.

The Sector Commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps, Clement Oladele confirmed the accident in Abeokuta.

Oladele said the inciident occured along the Abeokuta -Lagos Expressway adjacent the old tollgate at Ota area of Ogun State.

The Sector Commander added that the multiple road crashes involved no fewer than 17 people which comprises of 8 males and 9 females.

He added that the suspected causes of the accidents were speeding and mechanical deficiency suspected to be brake failure.

He further revealed that the Injured victims were rescued to Ota General Hospital, while the corpses of the dead victims were deposited at the IFO General Hospital Morgue in Ogun State.

He said, “this afternoon at about 1135 hrs, multiple fatal crashes occured along the Lagos – Abeokuta Expressway around the old toll gate at Ota which has led to the death of seven persons .

“The crash involved a dangote truck conveying cements ; a space wagon and a volks wagen yellow coloured passengers bus.

“The incident occured at about 1135hrs along the :Abeokuta -Lagos Expressway adjacent the old tollgate at Ota, Ogun State.

“The crash involved a total of 17 people made up of (6 Male Adults , 2Male Children 8Female Adults , and 1Female Child)

“The vehicles involved were 03;(a) Dangote Truck Ash coloured with no registration number (b)V\W Bus Yellow LSR128XP (c) Sienna White APP122CD

“The suspected causes were speeding and mechanical deficiency suspected to be brake failure.

“The total number of people killed were 07 made up of 02Male dults , 03Female Adults, 01Male Child and 01Female Child, the number injured were : 10 (4Male Adults and 6Female Adults).

“The Injured victims were rescued to Ota General Hospital, while the corpses of the dead victims were deposited at the IFO General Hospital Morgue in Ogun State.”

The Sector Commander however said protesting mob set the truck ablaze.

Oladele further disclosed that FRSC had contacted sister security agencies so as to help in curtailing situation of things in the axis.

He said, “Irate mob protesting the incident have set ablaze the Dangote truck suspected to have caused the fatal crash

“The FRSC is still at the scene managing the incident and has contacted the Fire Service to extinguish the inferno to make rescue operations faster .

“Also sister security and emergency agencies have been informed to assist in curtailing the situation

“The FRSC Sector Commander, Ogun State Command Clement Oladele has commisorated with the relations of the victims and again warned that the area the crash occured is a black spot notorious for frequent crashes , which has claimed over 40 lives in the last five years and called on motorists especially articulated vehicles to drive cautiously whenever ussing that section of the corridor .

“The Sector Commander also advised passerbys to desist from turning into mobs and resorting to self help by wilfully destroying public properties or accidented vehicles, irrespective of the level of provocations , as there are standard ways of reporting and handling griviancies to appropriate law enforcement agencies.”
