The Chairman of the National Association of Nigerian Students, Tomiwa Bamgbose, has insisted that the arrest of the Students Union President of the Federal Polytechnic, Ilaro, Adegboye Olatunji was a frame up by some suspected enemies of the President.
The NANS chairman maintained that the detailed research and investigation carried out on the allegation levied against Olatunji showed that he was innocent and was never a cult member.
He however warned the management of the institution not to commence the semester examination without Olatunji, else will have the students to contend with.
Bamgbose in a press statement made available to newsmen in Abeokuta said there was no iota of truth in the allegation by the Police that the embattled SUG President was a cultist.
He stressed that there has not been any record of Olatunji being engaged in any immoral act.
The NANS chairman further explained that the allegation was coming a week after the embattled SUG President raised fundamental issues about the community and the school .
He noted that Olatunji is being framed by some group of persons.
The statement reads partly, “the leadership of the National Association of Nigerian Students, NANS Ogun JCC having watched, observed and after carrying out a detailed research and investigation on the allegation levied against Comrade Adegboye Emmanuel Olatunji, the Students’Union President of the Federal Polytechnic Ilaro of being involved in cultist related activities.
“We make bold today to disclaim this allegation as it has no iota of truth. Comrade Adegboye was subjected to Security screening before becoming the SUG President and was not found wanting, there hasn’t been any record of him being engaged in any immoral act before, why is this allegation coming out this time, days after which the Comrade raised fundamental issues about the community and the school.
“We believe Comrade Olatunji is being framed by some group of persons and as a result, as Nigerian Students we will never neglect or forsake our brother and Comrade.”
The NANS chairman however demanded for the immediate release of Olatunji.
The students body also called for intervention of the Governor of the state, Dapo Abiodun, to quickly come to the aide of the students leader.
He added, “we hereby use this medium to call on the Inspector General of Police to order the immediate release of our Comrade Adegboye Emmanuel Olatunji.
“We also call on the immediate Intervention of the State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun through the S.A to the governor on Students’Union affairs, Comr. Adeyemi Azeez to quickly protect us from this libel act and defamation of character as we want to remind you of your promise never to give room for victimization of Student Union leaders under your administration as the governor of the state.
“We also want to use this medium to demand for the immediate postponement of the 1st semester examination f the Federal Polytechnic Ilaro as Nigerian Students have resolved that examination will not take place if our President, Comrade Adegboye Emmanuel Olatunji is not released. NANS hereby call on the rector of the institution Dr. Aluko never to dare Nigerian Students as we demand for the immediate postponement of the examination and reserver of the decision of the school management which suspended comrade adegboye olatunji because he was never given a fair hearing and the court of law has not found him guilty.
“We are also aware of the threat you issued against any students and staff who go against you on this, your dictatorship style is not accepted as Nigeria students under my watch will expose all your evil plans very soon.
“We also demand that Comrade olatunji should be charge to a competent court of law as he has over stayed the constitutional stipulated time in the police custody without undergoing any trail.
“We also call on all militant, rugged, dogged and combatant Nigeria Students in Ogun state and across the federation, National and Zonal leadership of NANS, human right activist and freedom fighter to arise as we collectively demand for the immediate release of our Comrade between now and the next 40hours which will laps on Monday, 17th of February,2020 by 7am as we will not hesitate to occupy the streets of Ogun state with our battalion of Students because we believe an injustice to one is an injustice to all.
Preliminary investigation by PLATFORM TIMES revealed that both students and staff of the institution are not happy with the development as they opined that Olatunji’s travail was an handy work of some enemies of the students freedom on campus.
Our reporter who spoke randomly with both staff and students discovered that no member of the institution has openly commented on the issue owing to the fare of the rector Olusegun Aluko’s wrath.
When contacted if the school management has commenced investigations, Deputy Registrar, Public Relations of the polytechnic ,Sola Abiala , said the school is still investigating and he wouldn’t want to predict the outcome of same.
” If you read my Press statement, you will see that we wrote there that, he is suspended pending the time he will appear before the panel. That means the school is already investigating and I don’t want to predict what the outcome could be. “.
