The story of the Ogun state commissioner for Youths and Sports, Dr. Kehinde Oluwadare berating the former Governor of Ogun state, Chief Olusegun Osoba has been trending on social media space even while the commissioner has denied same.
Below is the full text of what the commissioner said. Hence, Platform Times is in possession of the record 8:06 minutes recording.
Let me firstly say on behalf of his Excellency, Prince Dr. Dapo Abiodun MFR that, I want to welcome you to this ministry. Even though, I am just seeing this topic for the first time , the roles of political leaders in the frame work of the state.
Well, let me say that, as we all know that the adventure of life is to learn , what is important in this world is what are we contributing to the development of our society, I think that is very very much important. And as a political party we have our own internal objectives for us to join politics and the essence of this is because we feel we can contribute our quota to nation development.
If you permit me, I will borrow from the words of Abraham Adesanya that says, “there can never be
economic stability without political stability”. If our policy is not stable definitely, we cannot have economic stability but let me just pick because of time from the two leaders that I want to compare now.
Most of the people today , they will talk about the days of Awolowo, that when Awolowo was there he was able to transform free education, he was able to bring these ideas on board, he has his own ideology. But, I want to do two comparison , Awolowo and Chief Ahmed Bola Tinubu, today most of us celebrate Tinubu as our political leader, mentor because one or two things that we can attest to the fact that he has achieved. (SIC)
When you look at Awolowo, Awolowo appreciates brain, he discovered brain. The likes of Bola Ige, Jakande, Olabisi Onabanjo, Adekunle Ajasin , all these people are Awolowo boys. In their own rights, they are doing well, that is why the work of Awolowo can be in that line.
And according to the world leader that I want to borrow a lead from, he said that, the best way to estimate intelligent of a leader is to look at the calibers of people he had around himself. (Sic)
So, in that note , when you look at Awolowo tone then you will know that he surrounded himself with people that have same ideology with him. And the only person that probably tried to emulate that style is Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
In 1999 Bola Ahmed Tinubu came on board with the likes of Osinbajo, Kayode Fayemi, Fashola, Aregbesola, Mamorah, Muiz Banire, Tokunbo and Koro, you know all these people and till today, all these people are doing well in their own respective field and that is why till today, you will see Lagos, Ambode ,Fashola era (SIC).
When you also look back to that 1999, when Osoba was Governor, Lam Adeshina was Governor , this man from Edo State that was former chairman, Oyegun was Governor and Dariye and few other people in 1999. How many of them can you point that, these are people they were able to grow. And we should all know that a leader without a successor Is a failure and that is what matters in this struggle.
So, in here in Ogun State, maybe I will say the only person I can see with Osoba is Segun Adesegun. Aside from Segun Adesegun, no other person, so likewise in Oyo State , nobody I can’t say this belong to Lam Adeshina camp but Bola Tinubu is not like that.
So, in our own politics, I want to advise that, let it not be about what we want to achieve alone that matters but what people can benefits because of us. (Sic)
I remember in 2011 and 2015, I coordinated presidential campaign in Ogun State. I was the one that coordinated It in 2011, 2015 and likewise 2019. As a state coordinator in 2011. I am the state coordinator for Buhari/Osibanjo campaign. I remember that time that you know among the candidates , the then incumbent President was there, Buhari was coming on board and everything was though, I did my assessment and honestly, I do not see candidate among them but the only person I could say oh, the little bit is that of Buhari and because I ruminated deeply and I felt what are the challenges of Nigeria , Insecurity and Corruption. Because of the issue of Boko Haram insurgency and Islamic extremist in the North , that is Insecurity and I am looking who among this candidates can fight them better , it is Buhari because of the experience, because ‘eni ti o ba wo aso army lasan, to ki tie ni star, o ye ki o ni experience just eni ti ko lo si army lo’. On that note if felt Buhari could do better.
Then, corruption that has already hit us deep. If somebody has already served as former President , former petroleum fund development chairman , Governor and all that and he is not corrupt, definitely this person should be able to do better, so in that two notes , I have something at the back of my mind , even then because I live in Ikenne. Lado is there and they were trying to lure me to come and contest under that platform that I should come and contest for Rep, that they will link me with Atiku and I will make money but I felt that if I am not careful Nigeria is sitting down on a gun powder that may probably blow. I look at it deeply, I may not benefit something directly, if I had to support Buhari but many people will benefit from that government. And I can tell you today that today, Buhari is doing well even though that is not the rate at which all of us want it to reach but let us recollect the security challenges that time to the point that they are already announcing that Boko Haram are in South West, they will soon invade Ibadan, they are already in Ibadan and all of that.
But today, many people will not tell us their due fact. So , on that note, I want to appreciate you people for what you’re doing . Just like the word of the wise, you cannot do all but yet you can still do some.
Like Obama will say that, he had studied the ways of Abraham Lincoln and John Kennedy that he had studied most in the past of the Presidents of United States of America but he believed their own way must also change . In Nigeria, we are celebrating the past rather for us to celebrate the people that are in the future . Let me say that whatever you are doing or you have put together will never go in vain as I believe that nature and posterity will never forgive us if we fail to use the opportunity we have at this present moment to develop this state.
I want to admonish us, I want us to work together in synergy, not what will benefit immediately but what the entire society will benefit from , that is what matters.
On that note, I want to welcome you once again, and I really appreciate everybody for coming, thank you so much.
