The National Association of Nigeria Students (NANS) has demanded accountability in the relief funds allocated to fight the spread of coronavirus in the country.
The Students body urged State Governments and other organizations to be transparent in their quest to combat the pandemic disease with the relief fund of Central Bank of Nigeria.
The National Public Relations of NANS, Comrade Azeez Adeyemi stated this on Monday during a press briefing at the Nigeria Union Journalist Secretariat, Abeokuta.
Adeyemi explained that, China has not recoreded a new case of Covid-19 as a result of their practical actions.
The students spokesperson called on the National Centre for Disease Control to be more proactive in combating the spread of coronavirus in the country.
He maintained that the association was in support of the position of the Federal Government over the closure of all higher institutions in the country.
“We have asseseey the economic, social, religious and health implication of Covid-19. The consequence is grievous among the very advance countries of the world.
“As an active players of Nigeria polity, our heart and prayers are with the people of China, Italy, UK, US, Iran, Japan, South Korea, India, Singapore and all affected countries of the world. We note with concern cases within Nigeria and Africa region.
“The National Association of Nigerian Students commend and appreciate the Federal Government of Nigeria in its mechanism put in place to curtail the virus. We are aware of they crucial roles of the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control and collaborating efforts of Health practitioner and other civil societies. The Government pronouncement on churches, mosques and other public places is commendable. In the same light, we are in full support of the closure of all Federal Government owned institutions from Federal Colleges of Education to Universities and wish to enjoined all Nigerian Students to abide by the guidelines released by the Federal Government in curbing and mitigating the effects of all this deadly virus.
“However, NANS believes that before hand there should be more proactive measures ahead to curtail and possible contact of Covid-19.
“The leadership of NANS demands accountability in any counterparts funds received by Government and organizations to combat and curtail the spread of Covid-19 in Nigeria.
“It is on credible information that China has not recoreded a new case of the Covid-19, following practically actions.
“Nigerians must emulate all best hygiene practices and all State Government within the country must demonstrate strength in character and capacity.”
