Following the discovery of a COVID-19 index case in Ogun state, the Nigeria Medical Association in the state has urged Governor Dapo Abiodun to lock down the state totally before things get complicated.
The medical doctors insisted that shutting down of all activities in the state would prevent the state from getting more index cases in the coming weeks.
Speaking on behalf of the doctors at a press briefing in Abeokuta, the NMA state chairman, Dr. Ismail Lawal maintained that the state cannot manage multiple cases of COVID-19.
He stressed that the total lock down would be for the benefit of everybody in the state at the end of the day.
He noted that the situation is an emergency one and must be tackled as such so as to save the people from getting the virus.
According to him, locking down the state is not something the state government can not do.
He added, “maybe tomorrow, they can say okay by tomorrow, please prepare yourself, buy whatever you want to buy.
“If the government can also come to the aid of the people, they can distribute food material.
“This is a time of emergency, whatever resources anywhere should put together to save the menace.
“It is only when we manege our people that we can work and government can get money in the long run or in weeks to come.”
