“We are here on the instruction of Mr President, President Muhammadu Buhari to bring goodwill messages and messages of solidarity to the government and people of Ogun state on this COVID-19 pandemic.
“Secondly, we have come to discuss with the governor on how we are going to work on the effectiveness of the support for the vulnerable population in the country especially in Ogun state.
“Thirdly, I have also come with some relief item to the government of Ogun state to support what they are doing as palliatives to our vulnerable and poor citizens.
“I have also come to ascertain the progress made so far on the enrollment and registration of beneficiaries for the conditional cash transfer.
“The committee on mass care security and logistics and this committee is working together with other relevant security agencies to distribute food relief that was also approved by Mr. President to get the general graze reserve. I understand that the team from my ministry is already in Ogun state and they are going to work with the Ogun state government to handle this issue.
“They are coming in quite number of trucks, I can say precisely for now, but there are over a hundred truck coming to Ogun state on miaze, garri, among others. But, what I have brought with me now is food items; rice precisely that has been handed over by Nigeria Customs Service and that is coming in five trucks of 3, 00 bags of 50kg and one trucks of vegetable oil, this is what we have brought to the government of Ogun state.
“I am not aware of any document going round; it is definitely not coming from my office. Mr President has pronounced the lockdown of three affected locations; two states and the FCT. All the palliative method we have taken to cushion the effect of this COVID-19, Ogun state is included, so, I am not aware of such document. I assure you that the federal government is doing the possible to see that it support the state government in delivering these palliatives and assisting, or providing this relief to our poor and vulnerable citizens.
“Conditional cash transfer, This is part of the issue we discuss with the Excellency, we have assured him, already work is in progress. My team and the state team are working; by Monday we are going to start the registration of the beneficiaries from all the communities together with the state government. It is a process, but I assure you that in the next payment round of May and June, Ogun state will be captured. The cash transfer is an intervention by the federal government to poor and vulnerable, the federal government is paying them N5,000 per month. But, with this COVID-19, the federal government asked us to pay two months advance and that is why we are paying them this N20,000.”
