One killed in Ogun fuel tanker explosion

One person was confirmed dead while two vehicles were burnt in a tanker fire incident that occurred on Sunday night around Lotto area on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway in Ogun State.

PLATFORMTIMES gathered that the tanker fire accident occurred around 8:03 pm on Saturday.

PLATFORMTIMES further gathered that the deceased was a female passer-by whose name could not be ascertained as at the time of filing this report.

PLATFORMTIMES learnt that the accident occurred when a fuel-laden truck lost control on motion and hit a barrier on the road

The Public Relations Officer of the Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Corps in the  state , Babatunde Akinbiyi  confirmed the incident to newsmen in Abeokuta on Sunday. 

Akinbiyi explained that the accident involved three vehicles ; a truck, a tanker loaded with petroleum and a commercial bus.

The TRACE spokesperson explained further that an  eye witness told him that , a fuel-laden truck lost control on motion and hit a  barrier on the road .

He said, immediately the tanker fell down, the content gushed out and caught fire with two other vehicles.

Akinbiyi stated that, the  fuel- laden truck driver managed to escape the inferno.

He however noted that, the corpse of the deceased had been deposited at Fakoya private morgue in Sagamu.

He said“Unfortunately,  an adult  female passer -by along the axis got burnt too in the process”.
