The League of Registered Political Parties in Ogun State has called on Governor Dapo Abiodun to order the arrest of his Chief of Staff, Salisu Shuaib, the Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Politics, Hon. Tunji Egbetokun and the Special Assistant to the Governor on Government House, Hon. Tunde Olaotan for violating social distancing measures to Covid-19.
The political parties accused the trio of bringing hundreds of members of All Progressives Congress across the state to the Oba’s complex situated at the Governor’s Office, Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta to give them N2,500 each as palliative envelope.
The political parties made this call in a statement issued and made available to PLATFORMTIMES by its Chairman, Comrade Ogini Olaposi on Sunday.
Olaposi explained that, the governor’s aides breached the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control order on social gathering.
He stressed that, arresting the trio would serve as lesson to anybody who planned to also violate the measures of preventing the spread of Covid-19 in the state .
The chairman described the governor’s aides behaviour as ‘a show of shame, unnecessary arrogance and impunity’.
Olaposi noted that, bringing party faithful together from various Local Government Areas of the state had rubbished the efforts of the government in fighting the spread of Covid-19.
The statement reads “The League of Registered Political Parties in Ogun State on Saturday Night through a Statement Signed by its Chairman, Comrade Oginni Olaposi Sunday in Abeokuta, Ogun State Capital call on Gov. Dapo Abiodun to discipline all high ranking Government Officials who were involved in the invitation of hundreds of APC Party faithful to the Governor’s Office Okemosan, Abeokuta on Monday and Wednesday of this week on the pretense of the distributions of Relief Packages.
” It is highly disturbing that the Ogun State Government through some of its high ranking Officers broke the Nigeria Centre for Disease and Control Protocols by bringing hundreds of party faithfuls to the Governor’s Office Abeokuta for Palliative meeting.
“The show of shame at the Oba’s Complex during the week clearly shows that Gov. Dapo Abiodun’s Government is only paying a lip service to the war against Covid-19 .
” It is therefore laughable that a Government who is constantly pretending to be fighting Corona virus war by Locking down the entire states for an unbrokenly 7 Weeks running is at the same time organising programmes to bring Politicians to okemosan in their hundreds to receive a paltry #2,500 – Palliative Envelopes with outright disregard to the NCDC Protocols on social distancing and social gathering.
“It therefore become pertinent to warn the Ogun State Government that double standard in the prosecution of the war against this pandemic will be disastrous.
“The bringing together of APC party faithfuls from various Local Government Areas made nonsense of the Government’s Covid 19 fight without any gainsaying.
“The unnecessary arrogance and impunity openly displayed by the Top Aides of His Excellency makes the Covid-19 fight by Gov. Dapo Abioduns Gorvement a mere charade.
“Recognising the fact that anybody coming to equity must come with clean hands , we hereby call on The Ogun State House of Assembly and Governor Dapo Abiodun to order the arrest and prosecution of the trio of The Chief of Staff,Mr Salisu Shuaib, the SSA to the Governor on politics, Hon. Tunji Egbetokun and the SA to the Governor on Government House, Hon. Tunde Olaotan to serve as deterrent to others. After all, a renowned Actress, Funke Akindele was prosecuted and convicted for an ordinary birthday party in her sitting room. We therefore see no reason why those saddled with responsibilities to protect lives and properties as aides of Mr. Governor shouldn’t have double punishment for violations of social distance and social gathering orders.
“Realising that Leadership should be by example, a bad precedent by highly ranking Ogun State Government officials shows arrogance that they are all above the laws of the land most especially the NCDC protocols on the containment of Covid 19”.
