The residents of Kuto in Abeokuta area of Ogun state have appealed to the state Governor, Dapo Abiodun to interfere in an alleged continuous invasion of Customs officers into the community.

The residents begged the governor to rescue them from being hit by Customs officers’ stray bullets.

PLATFORM TIMES learnt that the operatives of NCS invaded the community on Monday evening and allegedly ransacked shops reportedly loaded with rice.

PLATFORM TIMES further gathered that the NCS operatives allegedly shot sporadically into the air and this reportedly caused panic and fear among the residents of the Kuto community.

The residents however expressed concern over the alleged invasion and sporodical shooting of the officers of the Customs in the community.

The community however on Tuesday lamented that the people of the community were at risk of being hit by stray bullets if the government did not interfere in their ordeal.

Speaking on behalf of the community, the Baale of Kuto, Muftau Kehinde said there is fear and panic among the residents of the community due to the sprodical shooting which he claimed lasted for hours.

He said, “around 5pm yesterday, we were hearing gunshots at Kuto junction, there was panic everywhere. We investigated who were shooting and we discovered that it was Customs officers and those officers were putting on mask, we couldn’t see their faces.

“They were shooting like there are at the war front or they are having a gun battle with Bokoharam. They were shooting in all our streets and it is not just small shooting, there was fear everywhere.

“Many residents of this community were falling down and many were injured because of the panic that has taken over everywhere.

“We are using this opportunity to appeal to Governor Dapo Abiodun to help us talk to the Customs boss in the state that we don’t want war or gun battle in Kuto.

“Those smugglers that they (Customs officer) claimed bought rice to Kuto did not have magic, they took it through the normal routes. What were they looking at the border to allow those smuggled goods enter the state. Those people pass through Ilara, Imeko before it got to this place. Kuto is within the town, they should not kill our people like they kill people at border community.

“Many of our residents have left their homes, we are now talking to them and educate them that there is no war, but the work of Customs officers. Till now, there is panic and fear among our community members.

“They came to Kuto about two weeks ago also to ransack a shop with smuggled rice.

“We want the government want to help us so that our people will not be killed with stray bullets.

“Although, nobody have been killed, but many have been injured due to panic. If they feel like shooting, they are free to go to Sambisa and face Bokoharam. They should stop threatening and creating panic in the community.”
